Besides the beach, Gulf State Park is probably the biggest attraction in the area.

On the park's 6,500 acres, you'll find many ways to get in touch with nature, whether you like cycling, hiking, camping or watching the wildlife in the area.

The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail in Gulf State Park covers more than 45 miles and takes you through nine different ecosystems and provides an amazing day with nature.

The Gulf State Park Pier, 1540 ft. is the second-longest pier on the Gulf Coast.

Charter fishing boats and sunset cruises, dinner cruises, dolphin watching, and water sports come aboard regularly, and the area is home to two of the best golf resorts in Alabama - Craft Farm and Kiva Dunes and a total of nine different golf clubs and a state-owned 18-hole golf course.

Nature-lovers shouldn't miss a visit to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, where you can have hands-on encounters with remarkable animals such as kangaroos, sloths, and lemurs.

And to the west is the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, the coastal habitat of sea turtles and stunning migratory birds.

Other popular attractions include the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo (as featured in Animal Planet's "The Little Zoo that Could"; Pelican Place at Craft Farms, a mall; and Waterville USA, a family amusement/water park.
